Intensively Grazed Logged Lands Project
Project Objectives
- To convert woodland areas to productive pastures inexpensively
- To reduce aspen, poplar and willow re-growth by controlled grazing
- To extend the grazing period and improve the pasture management
- Share info in Forage Facts
Progress and Comments
- Calendars of cattle movements, forage and plant descriptions and 100's of photos compiled for 2 seasons at 3 sites
- Key to this project is livestock water development and installation of a good high powered energizer with the electric fence
- Shared info in Forage Facts and at Pasture Management Workshops in early 2002
- Collecting data to show benefits of rotational grazing.
- Compiled 2 Forage Facts in 2003
Commitments and Next Steps
- Continue to share info through field days & winter forage club meetings as requested
- Look at alternatives to control or setback poplar regrowth.
- Use rotational grazing to continue to control woody regrowth.
