Barley Straw Dugout Demonstration
Project Objectives
- Evaluate using barley straw to reduce algae growth in dugouts.
Progress and Comments
- Two dugouts near Dawson Creek were divided using a curtain. Barley straw was applied to half of each dugout. Water was sampled monthly thru the 2003 - 04 growing season for chloropyhl (indicator of plant growth) Contact PFRA in Dawson Creek for preliminary results.
- This project is part of a Western Canada wide research study coordinated by PFRA
- This may be a viable way to reduce algae growth in dugouts
